Augmented reality is an interactive experience that presents you with a real environment that has been enhanced or altered by computer-generated information. Using a smartphone camera or a similar piece of technology, it allows you to experience the real world with additional data or images overlaid on top of it.

The Gazetteer will use the Historic Environments data to create maps to show South Holland’s heritage and then link it to the photographs and documents which are already held on this website to enrich the experience. This project is at its start point and will grow over the next 12months.

The inception of the project was back in 2016. I had watched my grandson playing with his Xbox and realised that this could be adapted to replicate the work of the Blacksmith. I contacted Lincoln University and was introduced to Dr John Murray who devised a project to demonstrate the idea.. John is now Professor in Robotics and Autonomous Systems at The University of Hull - Head of Computer Science and Technology
