This photo shows the support ring for the Sutton Bridge swing bridge. The support ring is a key part to the bridge structure, allowing it to then be turned to allow the flow of river traffic to pass. In the rear of this photo you can see the previous swing bridge. The present bridge was built in 1897 so this photo would date around then.
