Our film project to conserve home movies of the area has turned up what appears to be the opening ceremony of this bridge on film … but we don’t know the year … can anyone help? The film has to be from the late 1920s to the mid 1930s, we think. It shows the bridge lifting, cars waiting to cross and a shot of the local chimney sweep ready to do a ceremonial first -footing…
Hi Chris,
You can see Sugar Beet Factory in the background. This was demolished in 1991. I think the van in the picture is a Ford Transit mk1 which didn’t start manufacture till 1965. So my guess is late sixties early 70’s
Regards
Geoff
