looks like they just passed the Royal Mail Cart.
With the expansion of the territorial army, the 4th battalion was divided and a 6th Bn (or sometimes 2/4th) formed in 1939, including the Spalding company. These men would go to France in April 1940 to continue their training and end up being evacuated from Dunkirk.
