Broad Street Methodist Church c1900
This picture gives a very different view of the church and Broad St when compared to today.

This picture shows what a magnificent building the Broad Street Methodist Church really is. My memories of it are from the 1950s, by which time it had become crowded out by neighbouring buildings. The picture got me looking at the building now, on Google Earth. On the opposite side of the road is what was Leverton’s garage, later rebuilt as their Caterpillar apprentice training centre. It was in this training facility that my mother, Sylvia George, held sway. Apprentices from the 1970s will remember her as “Ma George” – a woman not to be trifled with!
