This was removed during the Victorian restoration 1866-1899. It was an ornate wooden construction accessed by the bell tower stairs. Thought to be constructed during the mid to late 16th century, it housed the choir and musicians prior to incorporating the installation of a pumped organ and pipes. Church records show that the 1st “Master of Musick” was appointed to the choir in 1700 and was paid a 3/4d retainer (about 16p) a year for his services. The organ was moved to the chancel as part of the Victorian restoration.
