A charming antique road map taken from “Britannia Depicta” engraved by Emanuel Bowen (see below) and published in 1736 – see frontispiece, not included
The map covers the 37 mile journey starting in Stilton (of cheese fame!) and running north through Peterborough, Crowland , Spalding and Donington.
Identified along the way are churches , windmills, rivers, hills, country estates and in this case, gallows just north of Peterborough. Every mile is marked and compass points inserted to aid the horse and rider.
