My great grandfather, John Joseph Chilvers was the 1st amateur champion of Linconshire in 1891. At the time he was apparently an auctioneers clerk and later ran his own auctioneers business from Spalding sheep market. He also became a Spalding Urban and Holland CC Councillor. He was chairman of the Spalding Urban Council when the plans were approved for the Spalding War Memorial. He was also involved with the Lincolnshire Skating Association and later helped to form the Spalding Skating Association.
