This photo shows the last passenger train to pass through the village, this was the 8.37 ex Peterborough to Melton and the journey is described in the text on train seen here at around 9.30pm. Although closure of the Midland and Great Northern line was scheduled for March 2, 1959, the final movements were on Saturday, February 28, 1959.

Before my time but I cycled there on 22/6/69. The station had gone, still plenty of evidence. The huge concrete nameboard “Sutton Bridge” was lying on the ground, I have a photo. The bridge operator took me up to his workplace.
He lent me some photos and newspaper clippings which I mailed back to him.
When he wrote again he told me a car had left the road and ended up in the river, fatalities.
Thanks for comments. Please add more, we love to receive Memories.
