Susannah Centlivre was born in Holbeach / Whaplode in 1667, producing her first play at age 23. She married at 29 to Joseph Centlivre, who was chef to Queen Anne and George I. Susannah wrote fourteen comedies and two tragedies until her death in 1723, each one typically witty and inventive. In one of them, the famous actor David Garrick played the lead.
