Stukeley House, Holbeach.
The house was owned by a man who was called Thomas Clarke who was said to be a self made man that had made a good living selling coal to houses in the town. He also played the organ for 49 years at Holbeach Chapel but died in 1921. The house was sold a few months after his death at auction for £4,200 to Herbert Carter, who changed the appearance of it in 1922-3. Mr Carter retired and moved to South Africa but died in 1944. Stukeley Hall was left to his wife Francis Carter but a compulsory purchase order was put on the property by the Holland County Council and it then became the Residential home in 1946.
