The above photo what we called the eight gates going towards Bourne, I use to live in flats which were on the right of the picture
On way home from the Gleed Secondary School, in 1965-1968, I would carry my push bike on my shoulders, over the footbridge when the gates were closed. Then I would wizz down Winsover Road, turn right at the Billy Gibbons Bike shop, down Hereward Way to 92 Pennygate.
The Gleed school taught me enough then, for jobs were availble, but I wanted to move, so I left Spalding behind in 1969 when I joined the RAF.
I recall this crossing when my aunt lived on the corner of south street in the 50’s then later when I started work in Hall Place in the 60’s.Traffic complains about the long wait at the barriers today but how many cars are there on Winsover Road in this picyure ?
