Spalding Home Guard

I saw a similar post recently and remembered this one with my grandfather, RSM Albert Smith (right), who also served for a short time in the Spalding Home Guard. This photo is from 1952, Albert was 79 at the time; I don’t know who the others are; maybe you do?

  1. Also my grandfather, picture top right, Regimental Sergeant Major Albert Smith, Omdurman veteran (1898) and veteran of WW1. Recipient of the Queens Sudan Medal, The Khedives Egypt medal, Meritorious service medal; long service and good conduct medal, WW1 war medal; WW1 victory medal; WW2 defence medal (For Home Guard service). Had 6 sons and one daughter. Lived at Omdurman Villas, Pennygate, Spalding. I only saw grandad Albert once, and that was before I started school in 1960. Grandad died in 1960 and is interred in Spalding cemetery

My father was his son, Raymond Smith (27/1/24-24/8/09). WW2 veteran and Palestine Veteran.
