On the lifting sugar beet photo my grandfather Charles Edward Smith is front right his father Edward Smith is standing next to the traction engine and his brother in law James Mann is standing next to him Charles married his daughter Ruth Mann. They farmed at Monks House and had two other farms one at Twenty on the way to Bourne and the other adjacent to it rented from the Black Suite drainage board on the Holland Kesteven border-on the Kesteven side I can’t tell which of those farms this photo was taken–best bet might be Monks House. They used Twenty station to load sugar beets for the rail journey to Spalding beet factory.
