Hi, I am researching my family history and came across you nice website on a general search. I’m really enjoying the pictures and stories. Thank you.
I wonder if I could trouble you for information if you have any about the Bakery and Confectionary business, run by Fred Dixon (my granduncle) and his son, in the early part of the 1900s up until the 1940s or beyond. They may have had a shop in Long Sutton market place or a bakehouse at 6 Gedney Road.
Fred Dixon was my Grandfather and owner of the Bakery in Market Street Long Sutton. When he first started the business Fred and his family lived over the shop and Bakery They had a delivery route, horse and wagon and eventually a motor van. When Fred retired he built a large house on Gedney road. Fred had 3 daughters and two sons by his wife Elizabeth ne Elding. I believe there were other offspring that died. His son Stanley carried on the Bakery for a while. His other son Leslie went into the potato business. His daughter Phyllis was a school teacher, May a spinster, and Kay a seamstress.
