Hi a gentleman has found some Lockwoods Cola Cans. He is asking can we help with more information? The Can says it’s produced in Long Sutton does any one remember? He is also asking when the Lockwoods name changed and did they go into administration?
Also a strange request did they have a Works fire brigade?

Lockwood’s canning factory produced fuzzy drinks and canned food. It is on the main road at little Sutton between long Sutton and Sutton bridge. The factory is now owned by Haywards. Think Lockwood’s went into administration early 80s. Where it was taken over by mainland markets but kept the Lockwood brand. Eventually Lockwood’s closed in early 90.s. they also had haulage and their own workshop based at the old station in long Sutton. Many workers from the canning factory have also been retained fire fighters in long Sutton.
Mainland Markets did not take over the factory, they were hauliers along with Lockwood Distribution that was a seperate company from the factory that did the haulage for Hillsdown, yes their depot was in station yard.
Princes Foods are the present owners of the factory at Little Sutton.
The canned drinks were produced in the 70’s at the Long Sutton site, Lockwood Foods went into receivership in 1981 then becoming HL Foods (Hillsdown) later in 90’s Premier Foods. In 2012/13 taken over by Princes Foods to present day.
No they didnt have own fire brigade, only own transport.
Would be interested to know where can was found.
Hi The can was found on a roundabout on the A38 in Droitwich, Worcestershire.
The can has done very well to survive all this time from the 70s.
