My father in law had in his possession a tea caddy spoon with an inscription on the handle with the words “Christmas 1937, Merry Christmas from Hallam & Blackbourn”. He lived in Peterborough and had relatives in Spalding. He was a mechanical engineer, born and raised in Kent. In Peterborough he worked for Perkins Engines.
However, he and his wife left Peterborough in circa 1927 and moved south to North West London. My query is about the tea spoon – were they given out to employees at the time and was there a reason (as well as being Xmas)??
Can anyone help with this request? Regards Geoff
I have one of these 1937 silver(?) spoons I use for salt. I echo Geoff & Fred’s inquiry???
