Most people I knew worked in school holidays in some way ‘on the land’? Been pulling, bulb cleaning, beet singling, strawberry and raspberry picking, gooseberry pulling, you name it we did it?
Comments:
mid seventies used to pick strawberries just over two plank bridge and didn`t there used to be an orchard near two plank bridge as well, fruit picking in the morning swimming in the afternoon, great days
Fred Glenny’s at Surfleet was the place for gooseberry picking after school – sixpence or a shilling a bucket, ( pre decimal) depending on the size of bucket.. My father used to drive the lorry which picked the women up in the morning for work – and took them home again around 3 pm
