I have asked keith Seaton who has just written a book on the River Welland, the shipping and mariners of Spalding. Hope to get back to you in a couple of days.

Hi Bob,
Are you related to Capt.Atkin? The Atkin family history is in my book “The River Welland, Shipping & Mariners of Spalding. The front cover is of a steam vessel that got stuck in the river but the Ketch in front of it is the Fern which you can just make out with a magnifying glass. Capt. Atkin had a hose built “Fern Cottage” in Albert Street just down the road from where I was born in 1939. Keith
