This is an artists impression of Crowland Abbey prior to the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539. It shows just how vast the Abbey and grounds would have been.

I was born in Crowland and also christened in the Abbey , according to my cousin who still lives quite close to the Abbey, that we are called jackdaws, because of the christening.
It’s a big shame that the building is not intact today. But looking at the artists impressions it must have been massive.
