So who knows about this photograph? Do the Daily Mirror angling matches still take place?

  1. HI Geoff. The Daily Mirror Cup ( English Angling Championship) is still fished under the new name of the ‘Angling Trust’ National Angling Championships. The Daily Mirror nametag was changed by the National Federation of Anglers when they renamed the Championship in 1937/38 to the National Angling Championships. The Daily Mirror newspaper presented the original trophy in 1906 for competition between member clubs of the National Federation of Anglers (founded 1903).

  2. love the history of this – my grandad was Harold Jones who won the individual championship in 1937 we’re currently trying to locate his winners trophy, it was given to a local angling club in Salford who disbanded & instead of returning the cup to my nana as agreed it was given to the Stockport angling club where unfortunately nobody seems to know where it is?! my dad would love to have this back to pass to another Salford club for local lads to fish for & grandad would have loved this too – if anyone could help with this search it would be very much appreciated

    1. I have details of this 1937 match and Harold Jones which is also featured in my recent book The National Angling Championships available from Medlar Press. Only too willing to help. John
