Aerial View of Gosberton from the Parish Church

In this undated photograph, we see the view from the tower of St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church in Gosberton. The view is to the north .

The row of cottages in the foreground is the old Church Street (or Church Row), before it was demolished and a modern terraced row built. At the end of Church Street, the large building that can be seen is the old Free Methodist Chapel, which is now a private dwelling.

To the right of Church Street, High Street can be seen, running leftwards (roughly north) towards Quadring. The two buildings furthest to the right on High Street still stand, but the others are long gone – one of which was McCartneys the butchers home and attached shop. The fields beyond these houses have now been built upon, forming the Welby Drive estate.

Peeking into view in the very margins of the bottom right corner are the boundary walls of ‘The Elms’, which for many years was the home and surgery of the village doctor.
