I can remember the old Fisherman’s Arms. My grandfather, Frank Stimson, was at one time accountant to the Deeping Fen and Pinchbeck Internal Drainage Board, told me that the Fisherman’s Arms, and the Vernatts Inn which stood by Sharp’s Bridge on Pinchbeck Road, were both owned by the Board. The chimney in the picture would have been for the boiler for the beam engine which was the major pumping engine on the site. Alas, despite appeals that it should be preserved, I believe the beam engine was cut up for scrap. Fortunately, the Pinchbeck Engine was saved.
