GIVE IT A GO

Try your hand at Blacksmithing

Come along and experience the thrill of working with red hot metal and making something of your very own.

Striking the iron whilst it’s hot – a great way to de-stress from your hectic lifestyle!

Trying out a new skill

Or re-kindling that love of metalwork from school days…

What do you need…

ALL SAFETY EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS WILL BE PROVIDED.

When working in a workshop environment, clothing is very important.

The best is denim jeans, a cotton t shirt or top, and strong sturdy shoes. Walking boots are preferable if possible.

It’s worth mentioning as well that long hair will need to be tied back at all times.

Who can do it…

How many?

Either an individual or two people can participate in the course.

Physical restrictions

Blacksmithing is a physically demanding job. Every applicant will have to take into consideration that they will be on their feet for the whole day, working with metal and swinging a hefty hammer for the majority of their time.

Health considerations?

Applicants with medical conditions such as bad backs, heart conditions or joint pain are strongly advised not to participate in the all day session.

Age limits

For the introductory session, participants must be aged seven or over (accompanied by an adult). Participants in the half or full day sessions must be aged 13 or over.

Location

Participants must be able to attend Chain Bridge Forge in High Street, Spalding, Lincs, PE11 1TX.

What do we make…

The most common items to make in the introductory session is a coat hook. In the half day session we usually make a fire poker.

These items are fantastic for first timers as they cover a lot of basic skills and are great pieces to show off.

The full day will be a bespoke experience and you will probably make a couple of items during the day.

If you have a personal project you would like to do yourself then please call and we can make an arrangement on design and price. This also ensure we have the correct materials available.
