This area is called Pode Hole Basin, and it was one of my favourite fishing spots in the 1950s. Pode Hole village school was behind the trees on the left. A dyke ran through a tunnel under the school, and entered the basin via a mini waterfall. Perch used to congregate at this point. Some said the dyke was the remains of the former River Westlode, which had joined the Welland roughly on the site of the Fire Station just above Chain Bridge. Does anyone know more?
Hi this the best map I have indicating route of Westlode
