It gives its readers a set of ‘A.R.P. Hints,’ this at a time when there was a very real threat – and fear – of a German invasion of Britain. The hints include; looking after your gas mask, and preparing your refuge room in the event of an attack.
In case you’re thinking whether this was a little over-cautious for out-of-the-way South Holland, there were, during the course of the war, there were 78 enemy raids in South Holland District, in which a total of 256 high explosives bombs were dropped, killing 5 people (all in Spalding) and injuring 28.
