This photo is taken from the ‘Spalding Free Press Yearbook and Almanack for 1939.’
It is captioned “Some well-known Spaldonians undergoing a gas test on the Black Swan field.” This was, of course, the year the Second World War broke out, and when there was a real possibility Hitler planned an invasion of Britain.
No indication is given as to who these ‘well known’ gentlemen were. They are impossible to identify – unless some folk out there – possibly family members – have the same photo with the relevant information annotated. Can anyone offer any help?
