I have posted this photo previously but that was some time ago. It was taken in 1948 at the Spalding Sugar Factory Lawn Bowling Greens. The factory team were playing against the Carters Park team from Holbeach. The manger at that time for the Factory was Major Moore. He was attending the game to present a Trophy to Ernie Powell who had won a National target shooting competition. The photographer thought it would be a good idea to have the bowls teams in the photo.
The photo was given to me by Ted Seymour who played for Carters Park. He worked in Whaplode at that time but joined the factory in the early 60’s as the workshop Blacksmith just before I joined the staff as a mechanical apprentice.
He found out that my dad was in the photo who had passed away a year after the photo was taken and asked if I would like the photo, hence it is now in my possession. If there was a local museum for Spalding and district Sports teams I would gladly pass it on to them. I can put a name to most of the people in the photo except the Carters Park players other than Ted Seymour. Ernie Powell is front centre behind the Trophy.
