Stewart Pearson – This photo was taken by Les Pruden for the Guardian/Free Press on the last day of school holidays 1957 near West Elloe Bridge. It was taken just about underneath the pylon that carried the gas line over the river near to where Dick Megginson and the Spendlelow’s lived on Albion St. You can see the original cottages on the river side opposite to the top of Willesby Rd and on the other side of the river is Bert Atkins BP garage. The brick building across the river belonged to Harry Lewis who was landlord at the Anchor. It was a compound divided into garages that he rented out to car owners. I kept my car in there in later years. The three boys are myself, Keith Maxwell and Don Maxwell. I have posted this before on Pictorial History of Spalding, thought others may like to see it.

My gran lived in a cottage on Albion Street side of the river, right in the river bank , near to the twin bridges. No one seems to remember them. Are these the cottages referred as being near west Elloe bridge in the photo of the boys?
