All Saints POI – Tower & Belfry

Today the first floor of the tower contains the town clock with its dial on the external north side of the tower. Here we also find the mechanical carilion or chimes first installed in 1776 and still daily playing from the nine available tunes. The second floor of the tower contains the belfry and access to here and to the steeple is by a newel staircase of 107 steps. The belfry is hung with eight bells which continue to be rung each Sunday for morning services and for weddings and at times of celebration. The earliest bell is dated 1648, another five are dated 1770 with the remaining two dated 1923 and 1936 respectively.
